Fall sports weekly recap: September 4-9

Last week was a big week for North Hills. Here are our teams’ results:

Girls’ Tennis

The varsity tennis team went 1-2 last week. They fought hard in losses to Seneca Valley and North Allegheny but ended the week on a high note with a convincing 4-1 win over Trinity.

Golf

The varsity golf team shot its lowest score of the season last week against North Allegheny, then beat Armstrong for its first win of the fall. The JV squad also had a season-best outing last week in a tight match against Butler.

Girls’ Soccer

Girls’ soccer is still looking for its first win of the season despite playing a pair of one-goal contests last week against Shaler Area and Chartiers Valley. JV soccer picked up win number two on the year last week, and the middle school team is 0-2-1 to start the year.

Boys’ Soccer

For the first time in several years, the varsity boys’ soccer team earned a win in section play. North Hills took down Shaler Area, 4-3, in a thrilling match at home. They followed it up later in the week with a 5-4 SoccerFest victory over Deer Lakes.

JV soccer also picked up a win on Saturday. The middle school teams went 1-1 at SoccerFest, and the red team won 6-0 earlier in the week.

Girls’ Volleyball

Girls’ volleyball had another great week, highlighted by a huge 3-1 win over Shaler Area on Thursday. With the victory, the girls are 4-0 and have defeated each of their opponents in four sets or fewer. The JV team went 1-1 last week and is 3-1 on the season.

Cross Country

Varsity cross country opened its season with a strong performance at home against Avonworth. Over the weekend, the teams participated in the Red, White, and Blue Invitational.

Middle school cross country also ran at home and raced in an Invitational. The girls won the Oakland Catholic Invitational on Saturday, while the boys finished in second. Overall, eight kids medaled.

Football

The varsity football team won for the first time this season on the road against Gateway. The 26-8 victory brings North Hills to 1-2 on the season. The JV football team won on Saturday to improve to 3-0.
