Fall sports weekly recap: October 2-7

The first week of October has come and gone. Some sports are winding down, while others are getting ready for a playoff push. Here is where our teams stand:

Girls’ Tennis

With last week’s lone match canceled, the girls’ tennis season has come to a conclusion. Thanks for a great season, girls!

Girls’ Soccer

Last week was another tough week for the girls’ soccer teams. The varsity squad went 0-2 after a pair of difficult matchups against Shaler Area and North Allegheny. As a result, the team is still in search of its first win this season.

Boys’ Soccer

The varsity boys played a thrilling game against North Allegheny last Tuesday. A 2-0 lead turned into a 2-4 loss, but the team played a tremendous game. A loss later in the week to Seneca Valley and a 3-2 win against Beaver brought the team’s record to 4-10-1.

The middle school teams continue to play well this fall, as the middle school white team highlighted last week’s slate of games with a 7-0 win over Springdale.

Girls’ Volleyball

Varsity volleyball picked up a 3-0 win over Bethel Park to start last week before traveling to North Allegheny for a section battle on Thursday. The girls lost the road match, so their record is 8-4 (1-4 in the section).

Cross Country

The varsity cross country teams wrapped up their dual meets/section schedules last week when they traveled to Pine-Richland. The boys won to finish 5-3 (4-3 in the section), while the girls lost to finish 3-5 (2-5 in the section).

At the Bald Eagle Invitational on Saturday, the boys’ team finished third overall, led by three boys with top-20 finishes.

Football

Varsity football hit the road once again last Friday to face Shaler Area in an important section showdown. For the second week in a row, the Indians came away with a much-needed victory. The boys are now 3-4 this season (2-2 in the section).

JV football won on Saturday to remain unbeaten this fall, while the middle school team picked up a shutout win on Wednesday.
