Winter sports weekly recap: January 22-27

January is all but over, and the winter season is beginning to wind down. Here is an update on each of our teams:

Swimming & Diving

The varsity swimming and diving teams took on Seneca Valley at home last week. The girls fell to the Raiders, while the boys picked up a 93-87 win. On the season, the boys own a 5-4-1 record (2-2 in the section), and the girls are 4-6 (0-4 in the section).

Wrestling

Varsity wrestling hosted Seneca Valley for senior night last week, and despite losing the match 32-38, the team still clinched a playoff spot. The boys ended the section schedule with a 3-2 record (second place) and will travel to Bethel Park on Wednesday to kick off the postseason.

Girls’ Basketball

Girls’ basketball went 1-1 last week, losing to Armstrong but beating Shaler Area. The victory over the Titans clinched a playoff berth for the Indians for the first time since 2016. With only a few games left in the season, the girls are vying for the top spot in the section.

The JV team went 0-1-1 last week to bring its record to 10-3-1 overall. The middle school teams celebrated Middle School Night with a pair of victories over Mars.

Boys’ Basketball

The boys’ varsity basketball team is coming off a great week in which it posted a perfect 3-0 record. The boys earned an important section win over Mars on Friday night, then beat Belle Vernon at the buzzer in the PBC on Saturday. The boys’ JV team was 1-1 last week and is now 7-8 this winter.

Unified Bocce

Unified Bocce hosted Deer Lakes last week and picked up four wins, sweeping the match. Overall, North Hills 1 owns a 4-2 record (tied for third place), while North Hills 2 remains perfect at 6-0 (first place) and leads the Allegheny North Division with 10.17 points per match.

Gymnastics

Varsity gymnastics competed twice last week, defeating South Side and Burrell and losing to North Allegheny. The girls are 2-4 this winter and 1-3 in the section.
