Boys' Tennis Falls Short to Butler in 2-3 Loss

Game Date

BUTLER HIGH-SCHOOL: 3

The boys' tennis team was excited for their section match on Monday, 3/27. After about an hour of play, the rain forced the match to be postponed to Wednesday, 3/29.

Though the team won 3 of the first sets for North Hills, the end result was not what they had hoped for. First singles, 1st doubles, and 2nd doubles had all won their first set on Monday. After the rain delay, play resumed on Wednesday, 3/29 and the team lost in a tight 2-3 match.

Junior Lukas Clement lost to Butler's number 2 singles player 2-6, 0-6, though the match looked closer than the reported score. Freshman Joey Saad lost his first set at 3rd singles by a score of 2-6,  but started to show some momentum in the second set. He eventually lost to Butler's sophomore Jackson Morgus.

First doubles sophomores Hayden Vollbrecht and Gavin Shomaker started out strong with a 6-1 win in their first set on Monday. Today proved to be more challenging as they split sets with their opponents and eventually lost in the 3rd set, 4-6.

North Hills' second doubles team of sophomores Riley Farrar and Othmane Eljoufri proved to be tough competition as they won their match in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Great win, boys!

The final match came down to the 3rd set for team captain and number one singles player, Josh Kim (11), as he faced Butler's skilled sophomore, Andrew Bocci. After a long day at the section tournament the previous day, the boys battled it out in 3 sets, with Josh winning the 3rd set by a score of 6-4. Josh's leadership was most impressive as he asked how the rest of the team did before he exited the court after his win. He showed encouragement to all members of the team and proved to be a strong leader.

It was a tough loss, but the boys are looking forward to giving it their all tomorrow at Seneca Valley, another section team. Good luck boys! Have a great second half of the season!
