The North Hills ninth-grade boys basketball team finished 2022 on a high note, winning six games in a row. The New Year started with a bang, too.
North Hills played host to Seneca Valley Tuesday and North Hills used a fast start en route to a 67-38 victory. The win was the seventh in a row for the freshman team and ran the Indians' record to 7-1.
Seneca Valley actually hit two 3-pointers early to take a 6-4 lead. The next thing you knew, North Hills had a 26-11 lead after the first quarter North Hills didn't slow down in the second quarter, either, and took a 30-point lead (45-15) into the locker room at halftime.
Jackson Long and Nathan Schanbacher combined for 28 of the Indians' 45 first-half points. Long scored 20 of his game-high 22 points in the first half, including 16 in the first quarter. North Hills breezed to the win in the second half under a running clock (mercy rule).
Eleven players scored for North Hills. Besides Long's 22, Schanbacher finished with 12 and Amir McFadden had a season-high 8. Kelly McCarthy had 6 and Joe Lutz 5, including a 3-pointer.
North Hills is back at it again Wednesday with an away game at Mt. Lebanon. North Hills' next home game is Friday against Shady Side Academy, 3:30 p.m. at the Senior High.
